How exciting, Eggy! I live in Encino, so I mainly know the Valley places (if you're willing to come to the Valley in the summer). It depends on what you're looking for, but here are the places i know: Bellini, Juvenile Shop, and Kids Dream all in Sherman Oaks, Baby Ant in Tarzana, and USA Baby in Burbank. And there are Right Starts all over. Have fun shopping!!!

Thanks, Shana! Everyone recommends Juvenile Shop, so I think the plan is to crank up the a/c in the car and head over the hill with my mom sometime in the next week. (In fact, my mom thinks I should register there, which is what many of my friends have done.) Once the baby comes, this whole imaginary boundary between valley/city will become quite blurry, as I know one of the better Mommy and Me classes is on your side of the hill.
If anyone has additional suggestions on this side of town, keep 'em coming!

Eggy, I've heard great things about Juvenile Shop as well, but I haven't been there yet. Let me know what you think. Hope you are able to stand the heat over here! Also, which Mommy & Me class are you talking about? I'm starting to freak out b/c so many people have said that we already need to look into day care, preschools, etc.

Shana - I liked Juvenile Shop. Good selection, helpful salespeople. etc. We bought a crib and mattress, which is a nice relief -- especially because I really like the crib! (It's a 10-12 week lead time with the order, so I'm glad we went now.) We also looked at gliders, dressers, and bedding. But I couldn't decide on anything, as I haven't yet figured out what color scheme I want to go with for the room. Anyway, I'd love to hear what you think of the store and others in the area once you start your shopping.
As for all the classes, I was told not to worry about preschool just yet (thankfully); but I have called about the Mommy & Me classes. I'm on the wait-list for a class in Sherman Oaks (which I called about when I was 12 weeks!) and am waiting to hear about another class in Santa Monica. Incidentally, in light of Nurse Sunshine's suggestion (and also because it's in the neighborhood), I checked out Petit Tresor -- for academic purposes, of course. (Heeee.) While it is expensive, it is not as outrageous as I expected it to be (well... maybe a little). It was definitely fun to browse around -- total baby store porn. They had some really lovely stuff and a very friendly staff. If I had no budget, I'd be all over it!

Eggy, it sounds like you were looking for a place to register as well(and that you found some good places already, but if you want to buy things used at all I highly recommend craigslist. I have bought so much stuff used - and there are tons of new postings every day. From clothing to cribs to strollers and exersaucers. I find that baby stuff just doesn't get that worn out, especially since so much of it is only used for a few months.
I live in San Francisco, but I know that LA has a really active craigslist as well.
