Thank you! We really like it and it's very functional. It's a really large closet... like 4' by 8'. It could be more organized, but it works for us!

I was just thinking about closet organization myself. You ladies have done such a nice job! I had no idea that BRU sold organizers. I love what you can do with Lowes, too. We'll be moving 6 months after the babies are born so I want to buy something that is easy to take apart and move.

We had already taken the sliding doors off our closet. DH and I thought it might be fun to put up a sliding curtain so its easy to move out of the way but then I could cover the closet if I wanted to.

Shelley~ With triplets did you have room for a dresser in the nursery? Our babies room is on the small side so with 3 cribs I dont know if one will fit?

Thnx for the great ideas ladies!!!!

I went to Lowes and bought the ClosetMaid Completions organizer (they also have it in cherry). They have a bunch of different units so you can mix and match and figure what would work best for you. This website does a good job of showing a lot of the possibilities and different units you can mix and match. Since my two spare bedrooms upstairs have tiny closets...I HAD to figure something out. They originally had the white wire/metal shelving just across the top, which was a total waste of space.
ClosetMaid Completions

There is another shelf above the green baskets that is hidden by the valance. I had an extra one so I figured I would throw it up there and add curtains since the doors would make it a little tough to pull out the drawers. I still need to whip out my sewing machine and hem the curtains so they don't bunch at the bottom and make ties. I found those baskets at Michael's and painted them (they were a natural color). They are already lined with brown canvas so I don't have to get liners and they're pretty big!. The drawers came with brushed nickel knobs, but I bought wooden ones and painted them a teal color that is in the set. I left the bottom open so I could stick something under there for shoes or whatever. The ClosetMaid unit all together (with two poles) was about $350 (I paid about the same price for both size drawers...you would think the smaller ones would have been a lot cheaper!). It would have been about $70 cheaper if I would have went with all big drawers. We got this crib set when we were going down the adoption route (gender neutral) so I decided I may as well use it and save the boy/girl themes for the toddler stage .

Oh...and I also ripped out the baseboard so the unit was flush with the wall and mounted it to prevent it from moving or tipping. Then I just cut out the baseboard and reapplied it so it looked finished. It was actually VERY easy...I highly recommend it to optimize space!

I love the idea of taking the doors off the closet. The one question I have is this: we're painting the room 2 colors divided by a stenciled border.. should we paint the closet the same way or leave it the off-white that it is or what? Any suggestions? Or maybe we should leave the closet doors on.. but they're the bi-fold doors and I really don't like them.

Wow, great thread!! I guess I need to start figuring out what I am going to do. My DH and I just started figuring out what color to paint to the room. We actually just ordered ou cribs and changing table today. It was the most exciting thing we've ever done. Although we were just standing in front of our closet this morning trying to figure out what to do to make the most of it. Now we have some ideas!! YAY!!!

Carie~ Great Idea!!!!! I love your closet!

As for painting the closet, we are also doing a 2 tone nursery divided by trim in the middle,so I think we will be painting the closet the same.... (without the trim..TOO bulky.)

I was asking my sister about it tonight and she suggested using a slightly lighter color than the rest of the room since a closet is such a small, somewhat enclosed space. I think I might pick a nice warm cream color to paint the inside of the closet.. something that will coordinate with the rest of the room without matching. I was thinking matching it would just be too much. I'm also going to either get or make curtains to replace the doors.

I can't sew. At least, I never have before. But my mom does and I'm thinking that if we go with homemade curtains, it will be something really simple. The dresser and armoire we bought have glass-front drawers and the previous owner had taken cardboard and covered it with fabric to block the view of the clothes in the drawers. We're going to redo them since they are pretty sloppy and I was thinking about getting different colored fabrics to sew into striped fabric.. to kinda match the trim on the bedding we picked out. So we might do the same thing for curtains.

I can't wait to get my nursery done.. I haven't even started yet. I basically have to rearrange 2 rooms before I can even begin to paint. And I'm quickly running out of time! Only 14 weeks to go.. which just sounds unreal.

The Container Store is really the best place to go and Ikea is really good as well. I haven't started this journey yet for the new baby, but I already have 3 children that we have to constantly make space for and I love organizing and making things better. Underbed storage containers work well, a wire stand with baskets works well (you can even get inexpensive baskets from MJ Designs and other craft stores and then line them with some really inexpensive receiving blankets and after you've spray painted them to match the colors in your room.

I've also had to get closet extenders (not sure if that's what they are called) but make more racks in the closet. The under the bed containers also have wheels on them.

Thanks Roxy and Jen I'm happy with the way it turned out. Now I have more than enough storage in there. Grandma 1 out of 3 was here over the weekend and brought more clothes...the one thing I regret now is adding 4 small drawers. Two would have been fine for socks, bibs, or onsies, etc. So, when I do the other closet I will just move those over.

Also, for those of you that want to put up curtains up...shop around. I got both gingham panels at Pottery Barn Kids for $25...more than 50% off. It's pretty easy to make the panels, but buying fabric can be crazy expensive. If your crib set has matching toddler bedding...buy a sheet! You can get those for around $15 and cut them in half. In the past I found some pretty thick Ralph Lauren sheets and TJMax and made valences...nobody had a clue and I paid $12 for an entire room . Make sure you check all those stores too (Marshall's, Ross, TJMAx)!

I'm looking forward to seeing what others have done for more ideas!
