Stopped gaining weight?

Since I found out I was pregnant, I have been weighing myself religiously first thing every morning. (I know that sounds neurotic, but I do it not because I'm concerned about gaining, but because I'm concerned about NOT gaining. I get excited when the scale goes up!)

Up until now, I have been gaining steadily - at least 1-1.5 pounds a week. Over the past two weeks, however, I have been fluctuating up and down a pound or two around the exact same number. I think I'm stuck! This makes me nervous, because my appetite is the same and I've been eating the same amount of food as always. And I've actually drastically decreased my activity. Does the fact that I'm not gaining mean the babies aren't, either? Did anyone else experience this kind of weight gain "plateau"? I know moms can lose weight late in the last trimester when the babies get huge, but I shouldn't be there yet - I'm only 26 weeks!

Kelly,
I hope my story makes you feel better. I stopped gaining weight at 22 weeks, when I reached 150 lbs. When I was 27 weeks, I had an u/s because the baby was measuring larger and I was still not gaining weight. From the u/s results, they told me that indeed the baby was measuring bigger but it wasn't much concern.

When I reached my 31 weeks, I gained one pound. . . finally 151 lbs! and two weeks later, I gained another pound, so now I am 152 lbs. The doctor says that I am doing well and everything is looking good. I may be gaining one pound each week as I approach my due date.

Also, one thing to add is that I started with 16 pounds extra when I became pregnant and I think they were from the fertility meds and all the hormones that they had. In fact, my face and my body were a little pudgier until I was 25 weeks and since then, it seems to be that my face is not as swollen as before.

Please don't worry and I hope that other members chime in to see what their experiences are.

Good luck sweetie! I have been following your wonderful journey and I am so happy for you that your dreams are coming true

Between 25 and 30 weeks I actually lost 2 pounds, but then afterwards gained three in the space of two weeks..... so I think you're fine!!! You'll start gaining again...perhaps you just need to eat a little more now that the babies are getting bigger, and you have two in there! Don't worry... the weight gain usually spreads itself out in the end.

When I asked my doc at my first OB appointment about the fact that I wasn't gaining any weight, he said not to worry. He explained that most women will gain somewhat sporadically at times so you may just be going through a short period of not gaining. If you're really worried about it, you should be able to call your doc's office and at least speak to a nurse about your concerns. I'm sure it's nothing, but do what you need to do to put yourself at ease.

I started about 30lbs overweight before I got my happy news so gaining an abundance of weight during pregnancy was a concern of mine. As it turns out I've only gained 8.5lbs this whole pregnancy so far. And I certainly haven't been starving myself (certainly not with terrible cravings for Oatmeal Cream Pies and McD's chicken sandwiches...oh, I'm bad ), but I guess this is just how my body responds to being pregnant. My mother also started a little overweight before she was pregnant with me and only gained 11 lbs for the entire pregnancy.

I had plataued at 5lbs for the longest time then jumped nearly 3lbs in a week. I thought for sure that was the beginning of more weight gain, but I was wrong. That was about 3 weeks ago and I haven't gained any since.

I know it is really important for mommy's of multiples to gain as much as possible, but this may be right for your body.

My doctor isn't at all concerned about my weight gain and as of last week my little girl was right on target.

The fact is, our babies will get what they need from us first and our own bodies' needs come second.

If you are eating appropriately and reducing your activity levels so that you're not "over doing it" then I think you and your little bambinos will be just fine.

When all else fails, call your OB.

I have a friend who is also naturally very thin and she hardly gained any weight during her last two pregnancys and had two healthy babies. I wouldn't worry too much unless your OB is worried. I think your little ones will be fine.
