Bed rest

So I started having contractions today and had to go to Labor and Delivery. UNfortunately I was contracting and they started to get a little worse, so I was hooked up to an IV and given a shot to stop the contractions. After several hours, they nearly stopped. I am now on bedrest (and my baby shower is Saturday). I go back to the doc on Monday and they will re-evaluate things.

Oh Joline I am sorry to hear about your day. Fortunately the were able to stop them which is a great thing and thankfully your water didn't break. As for your shower...is it at your place? Can it be moved to your place? I was on bedrest too when my shower rolled around so we did it at my place so I could stay hooked up to my monitor and not travel far.

I am sorry Joline. I bet you were scared! Poor thing. Maybe they can bring the baby shower to your house since you are on bedrest. Would that work?

Oh Joline. I'm so sorry to hear about the contractions. How scary. Like the other girls said, can the shower be held at your house? Bed rest is the pits. I know you'll take great care of those babies.

So sorry to hear what happened and your predicament - I am in the same boat as you. I started having contractions a little over a week ago and spent 3 nights in the hospital while they monitored them and gave me meds. They kept me a little longer than I think they normally do because apparently my cervix is now a little shorter than they would like - and which is why I am now on bedrest until close to 34 weeks (I think), if my little guy can keep cooking until then. I was supposed to have a shower last weekend that was out of town, and it got cancelled. I was horribly upset. I am supposed to have one this Saturday that is a little ways from my house, and my doctor said I could go there as long as I laid on the sofa the entire time. I know you wouldn't want to do anything to endanger your little ones, but you might want to ask your OB if that would be ok. I am going to see my OB tomorrow and am so worried my cervix will be shorter or dilated and she will send me back to the hospital. My friends and family have all promised that the shower will still happen, even if they have to bring it to me If you can't leave your house, I would definitely ask if they can come to you. I know its likely not ideal and not what you wanted, but I think you would be surprised at how people pull through in times like these. Hope things get better for you!

Ugh, Joline, so sorry to hear this. But the good thing is they were able to stop the labor and the babies are A-OK. Thank god for that. You'll figure the shower thing out - I'm sure your friends and family will make it happen one way or another. Maybe if you are doing OK next week they will let you off bedrest and just tell you to take it easy. Keep us posted!

Do you mind me asking, did the contractions feel like braxton-hicks or were they different? Were they painful? How did you know to go to the ER? I'm getting B-H all the time and always worried that I won't know to go to the ER when I should. It's so good that you knew to go and they were able to stop it in time.

Joline - I am sorry to hear this, but definitely you want to do anything you can to keep those babies in you as long as you can. I am sure you will be fine as long as you keep horizontal as much as possible. It does make sense to have your shower come to you too.

I'm getting B-H all the time and always worried that I won't know to go to the ER when I should. It's so good that you knew to go and they were able to stop it in time.

They started coming more frequently today. It didn't really hurt, but it felt like tightening, and it was more uncomfortable then painful. I got worried because I could feel them frequently (like 4-5 in 30 minutes). I called my doc to see if I should be concerned, and they sent me to labor and delivery. I was hesitant to call at first because I thought maybe the babies were just moving or doing flips or something, but it was too often, and it was getting really tight. I'm so glad I went, and now I know what they feel like.

Thanks everyone for your well wishes. I'm more concerned about the babies then the baby shower (of course), but I'm also disappointed. The baby shower was going to be a BBQ at my friend's house right down around the corner, so it's not out of the question for it to be moved up here. The doc said if I haven't had any contractions that day, then I could go for one hour if I stay seated or laying down. I just want the boys to be safe and sound in there as long as possible.

They also said my cervix is closed, but starting to soften.
