Fetal Heartbeat at U/S Question

Hi Ladies:

Hoping you have some answers since I can't seem to find much research online.

I had my first U/S today and I was measuring at 6w 2d. My doctor said I am 6w 4d, but I think they messed up and based on when I last had my period I should be 6w 1d.

Anyway, the heartbeat was 111 beats per minute. The doctor said everything looked good and was right on target and released me to my OB.

However, from what I've seen from others and read 111 seems low for either 6w 1, 2 or 4 days whatever I am! .

Any thoughts or experiences with this? My doc always seems to think things are ok, so maybe it really is and I'm just paranoid and worried.

Would appreciate any responses... Thanks!

At 6w2d my baby's hb was 112. They hb's start off slow and quickly rise. I think by the next u/s, which was the following week, the hb went to 160s...

The first time we heard the heartbeat it was 122bpm at 7w1d. A little less than 2 weeks later at 8w6d it was up to 172bpm. I've heard that anything over 100 at where you are is considered fine and normal. Congrats!

Thanks again for sharing your stories. I never thought I would get so much comfort from hearing stories of other women in similar situations to me, but it is such a great community. Wishes to all for a happy and healthy pregnancy!

That sounds about right

Here is some good info I found when I was researching heartbeats because I was worried about my babies too. here is the link to the website, Concerns Regarding early Fetal Development : American Pregnancy Association

and here is the specific info that I know will help you from that site

Week 7 - Gestational Age (Fetal Age 5 weeks)

Generally from 6 ½ -7 weeks is the time when a heartbeat can be detected and viability can be assessed. A normal heartbeat at 6-7 weeks would be 90-110 beats per minute. The presence of an embryonic heartbeat is an assuring sign of the health of the pregnancy. Once a heartbeat is detected, the chance of the pregnancy continuing ranges from 70-90% dependent on what type of ultrasound is used. If the embryo is less than 5mm CRL, it is possible for it to be healthy without showing a heartbeat, though a follow up scan in 5-7 days should show cardiac activity.
If your doctor is concerned about miscarriage, blighted ovum, or ectopic pregnancy, the gestational sac and fetal pole (if visible) will be measured to determine what type of development should be seen. The guideline is that if the gestational sac measures >16-18mm with no fetal pole or the fetal pole measures 5mm with no heartbeat (by vaginal ultrasound), then a diagnosis of miscarriage or blighted ovum is made. If the fetal pole is too small to take an accurate measurement, then a repeat scan should be done in 3-5 days. If there is absence of a fetal pole, then further testing should be done to rule out the possibility of an ectopic pregnancy.

Thanks everyone. I guess I'll go with RE's assesment that I am 6w 4d since I had an IUI, measuring 6 w 2d. I'm just so paranoid because it was measuring 2 days different (and I know there was a margin of error) and some of the hb seems low for being at that point. People are saying in 3 days the HB should be like 150, so I don't know how it will go up that much. I'm just paranoid and worried and with no U/S for at least another 4 weeks... it worries me a bit... I guess I would start to know if something goes wrong.

Thanks again!

Thanks for all of your replies. I have decided not to go online and read things anymore about this stuff. I'll drive myself crazy until my next OB appointment in 3 weeks! I know that the HB seems a bit low compared to most, but I've adopted the attitude that I can only do the right things for me and the bean, and not worry about things I cannot control. Hopefully all will be OK, but having 2 or 20 more U/S's wont prevent anything from happening that would otherwise.

Hoping the HB goes up.. but I'm going to just enjoy the fact that I'm pregnant for now. Thanks to all!

5 Weeks and Fetal heart rate 69

I am currently 5 weeks and 4 days pregnant and a little worried. The first week I found out I was pregnant, the doctor thought I had an optopic pregnancy (I have already had one) but after 2 weeks they confirmed today that the baby is in my uterus. However, now they are telling me that the heart rate should be at 100+. I thought that an accurate reading of the heart rate was around 7 weeks. The doctor said I am at an increased risk for a miscarriage. Is this heart rate low for 5 weeks or should I not worry and just wait a week? Please let me know if you have had this happen, good or bad. Thank you,
