Angel Monitors

Anyone plan on getting the Angel sensor monitors or know anything about them? They are the ones where the baby sleeps on a sensor, and alarms if it does not detect movement in like 20secs? Just wondering what you are all planning on using.

I am planning to get one for each baby. My cousin has one and she thinks it is great. I think it would give a lot of peace of mind, especially since I don't want to have the babies sleeping in our room - we would never get ANY sleep! - so I think having that would be a bit of built in security.

I have it and love it- the angel deluxe. When I was in the hospital, Lila slept with me- and I was constantly 'nudging' her to make sure she was breathing because she was so still, with this you can see the 'ticking' on the monitor which shows she is breathing. This helps me sleep- not having to worry.

I used one for my son and will definitely be using it for the next baby as well. It definitely gave me a better feeling of security while my LO was sleeping. When he was an older baby, maybe around 7 or 8 months, he rolled off the sensor pad one night and it alarmed. Scared the holy crap out of me, but was also reassuring to know it would alarm if it detected no movement.

I've also heard great things about the Babysense V.

I'm considering purchasing one - but here is my naive question. The alarm is designed to go off if the baby stops breathing. If god forbid that did happen, wouldn't it already be too late at that point to do anything about it? I'm just trying to understand the concept.

I think the idea is that a baby falls into such a deep sleep that they sometimes forget to breathe - so this would wake them up as well as alert you in case that wasn't the reason they weren't breathing and then you could start infant cpr or whatever and have a better chance of saving them.

I'm planning on getting the Angel monitor too, in fact we went to purchase it last night and the store was out of stock...I think the point of the monitor is that if the baby stops breathing, it gives you time to grab him or her and stimulate them (rub their backs, sternum whatever) to try and wake them up. If not you can still have time to perform cpr and it's not hours later...

OK that makes sense. Next question since you ladies are having twins as well - I'm assuming the product is only useful if you plan to put the babies in different cribs, right?

We have the monitor and love it. It actually went off a few times...there is a warning sound first and if there is no movement afterwards it really goes off. Our son had just pushed himself off the sensor. It also took some getting used to when we take him out of the crib. We always have to turn it off first. I definitely recommend it.

Yes, I would think it would only be useful in separate cribs and you would need one for each crib - that is my plan anyways. Are you planning to do separate cribs from the beginning or are you putting them together?

I was planning to put them together at first, which is the difficulty. You?

I'm sure my answer doesn't count because we are having a baby with problems but I originally wanted to put them together, now it's going to be separate cribs, separate monitors but in the same room.

had not heard of it, but now i want one!! Q? could you put them in one crib, but at either end, that way they could avoid the monitor affecting the other. the other thought is whether ur plans were to have them really close to each other.

I buy one for every baby shower I go to whether or not it is on the registry. ( I know thats bad but I cant help it)
I usually get the deluxe one its also a monitor.

This is not meant to scare anyone, its just my feeling of the importance of maybe the monitor helping save a babies life.

Babies can forget the to breathe so if the monitor goes off just picking them up and stimulating them can cause to breathe again.

Since my son passed away from SUDC/SIDS at the age of 2 1/2 yrs old. ( SIDS is for babies under the age of 1yrs old then after 1yrs old until 3 yrs old its SUDC) They all understand and ask my gift and they say they welcome it too. I always attach the reciept in the card just in case they want to return it.

I would purchase one for my twins but my pediatrician she is giving me one. I am not sure what she is giving me but I would not be able to sleep without it.
