Hanging pictures above baby's crib?

Are you doing this? Is it a bad idea?

That's my plan. There's a gap between the wall and crib so I figure it they come down, they'll slide down the wall and not bother the baby.

I almost put cute little decorative shelves before my senses came back to me!

i'm not going to, but only b/c i am having someone do some painting in the nursery over the crib. but i think that holly has a good point, if you keep the crib a few inches off of the wall, i think you will be fine.

Living in California, I don't think I'd feel comfortable hanging anything over the baby's crib. It's one thing if something gets loose and falls straight down the wall, but another thing entirely if there's an earthquake. There's no accounting for how exactly something might fall in that case.

I have a long, narrow, wooden wall-hanging with Caroline's name on it above her crib. The crib sets out about 4 inches from the wall, plus the wall-hanging is hung on multiple points on the back so it's less likely to fall. I would just plan to use some sort of heavy-duty hanging system. Of course, I'm pretty sure all bets are off once our little ones are big enough to stand up in the crib. I'm pretty sure then I might need to make some changes!

I got inspired and did a google search for child- and earthquake-proof picture hangers and came up with this. I'm thinking it's worth a shot!

I have Tristan's letters over his crib and while they never fell he is getting tall enough that he will be able to reach them soon.

kelly~ i think if you secure them safely to the wall and make sure the crib is a few inches away from the wall...you will be fine! looks like you found a good way to secure them. i can't wait to see your nursery!

I've always done it, but haven't always been as cautious as I am now (well maybe, but younger and just didn't think of some things). I will probably do the same thing; however, will find a stud and hang it the right way instead of my normal "It looks good there" and just use a small nail.

I have pictures from Petite Decor over the crib but they are made to be very lightweight and they have plastic instead of glass inserts. We also used the childproof picture hangers and made sure they were high enough so when he was tall enough to stand in his crib he would still not be able to reach.

Unless you live near earthquakes, you should be fine. I hung letters over our son's crib and until he got tall enough to pull them, they were sturdy and safe.
