What size clothes to buy

I am expecting twins and want to get some outfits bought and ready for them so I am prepared...how did all of you decide what size to buy (premie vs. 0-3 mths)? I am especially thinking for the outfits to come home from the hospital in. I'm especially interested in those of you who have twins

All of the stuff we have so far is newborn, 0-3 or 3-6 months. I imagine we will end up needing some preemie stuff, particularly if I end up having to deliver early due to these growth disparity issues, but I haven't bought it yet. I think i'm still trying to hold on to the hope that i'm going to give birth to two full-term, pudgy, 7-pound babies! I figure I will make mom run to BRU for some preemie stuff if we do end up needing it.

I am looking for coming home outfits in preemie size, however.

I assumed I would be having small babies because my doctor told me to expect the twins to come early but here I am at 31 weeks and they're both measuring over four pounds already. So I'm expecting two eight pound babies if I make it to 37 weeks. Needless to say, I bought all preemie clothes and now I'm rushing to buy newborn and 3-6 months sizes....

I'm only having a singleton, but I bought about 6 premie items. A set of 3 onesies from Gap for $18, a footed sleeper from Gap from around $11, a cute organic giraffe onesie on sale for about $10, and then a going home outfit for around $20. So I didn't spend a fortune but wanted to have things on hand in case she came out small! Most of it (except the going home outfit) is unisex so could work if I"m lucky enough to have another kid.

FYI - I already have a ton of 0-3 month hand me downs and stuff we've bought, so I'll probably bring a couple of those to the hospital too. It's not like baby clothes take up any room :-).

Thanks everyone! So far the babies are measuring on the larger side of normal and I just have this feeling that I will make it all the way to 38 weeks when I will have my scheduled c-section. So I could end up with some chubby babies!! That is great though. I guess I was thinking that I don't want to waste money buying premie stuff that I can't even give away as gifts because I will have washed it already - but I guess I can still give it to someone to use if I can't use it - just not as a brand new item I think I'll buy a few premie things and definitely coming home outfits in that size and also have something in newborn size also just in case. Thanks for your input!

Baby gap has the first favorites that aren't too bad in price if you buy the multi-packs: Shop clothes for women, men, maternity, baby, and kids at gap.com. | Gap

Gymboree had a lot of stuff on sale for <7 pounds. You can search by size

my twins are 21 days old today and are still in preemie clothes.... the 0-3 are too big but i do put them in them like the fleece footie pajamas. my advice is dont buy too many preemie outfits cause they will outgrow them fast.... my one twin already seems too long for some of the preemie outfits.....im finding that what fits them best are carters brand.... they seem true to size and has not shrunk. good luck to you and your babies!

Is there a good place to buy the Carter's brand online, or did you just go to a store? I heard the Target version of the Carter's brand isn't so great on quality, but the regular version is good?

I picked up a handful of preemie outfits and some NB. My twins were 6LBS each and only wore the preemie cloths for two weeks. They were in NB cloths much longer. I would say a month and a half at least before they started wearing 0-3. I would recommend buying NB sizes at first and then 0-3. I thought the preemie diapers were too small right away I went to NB within a day or two.

Off the clothes subject but if you are planning on BF then I highly suggest the twin boppy. I used to tons the first few months and still use it daily.

Dumb question, but what's the difference b/w premie and newborn?

I've seen most labeled as <7 pounds or 0-3 months.

The only brand I've seen labeled as newborn (so far) is Carters and Gap. Gap's newborn is really 0-3 months as they have a separate size for <7 pounds.

It all seems very confusing!

my twins were born at 35w3d and my son was 6lb 8.5oz, and he was a little pudgy. he was in the NICU for 8 days, so he didn't really wear clothes then, and that week he grew out of preemie. my daughter was 5lb 2.5oz though, and she wore preemie for about 3-4 weeks. best of luck!
