Lupus and MTHFR gene information

I had a difficulty pregnancy, were I had multiple placental clots and ended up having an emergency induction. After some blood work I found out that I am heterozygous for MTHFR gener and I also have PTT-LA antibodies which are the antibodies associated with Lupus. My OBGYN is setting up appointents with specialists and didn't have alot of information for me. I am really depressed about it and I don't really know what it means. I tried to google it and it just sounds so scary! I want to be able to have another child and I don't know if that will be possible. I am hoping someone out there can give me some information on both disorders and what it means for pregnancy. All my OBGYN said is if I "were" to get pregnant again I would have to be on a blood thinner. From my own reasearch it appears that it may or may not help.

Any information is appreciated as I will be waiting months to get in to see anyone and I am pretty depressed about it. Infact I can't really stop tearing up.

I just wanted to post to let you know my prayers are with you! I'm so sorry about the news you received.

I don't have Lupus, but have the MTHFR gene so have been on blood thinners my whole pregnancy. The daily shots are just what I'm used to now.

I will be for you!!!

I don't post much any more ~ but wanted you to know that this doesn't mean you CAN'T have any more children, but the risks are higher for Miscarriages. The fact that there are blood thinners are LIFE SAVING for the baby. I had 3 MC's and was heartbroken until we figured out the issue and now I am 15 weeks pregnant and on heprin 2 shots twice a day. It isn't a "normal" situation, but it's working so far.

My heart goes out to you, it's a lot to deal with.

Hello ladies. It doesn't look like anyone has posted on this thread in a while but I will post anyway.

I have been diagnosed with MTHFR and am on heparin injections 2x daily. I guess I wasn't paying all that much attention when I spoke to the doctor about this a few months ago, but I thought they said to discontinue heparin after the first trimester. It sounds like you ladies were told to continue for entire pregnancy?? I was hoping to be done with those in a few weeks, but maybe not

Once your belly starts to show the bump, I guess you need to move to another site for the injections. Where are some good spots?

Frankly I'd be afraid to stop the shots. While I know nothing about MTHFR, I had to be on heparin my entire pregnancies for APS.

Ditto ~ We are 28 weeks prego w/twins and I am HUGE and still use the side of the tummy as well as legs, and just recently moved to the fat up above your butt! I think you should re-test and re-evaluate before you just stop taking the injections. I was told to stop after testing low, but after three MC's my doctor has supported me in taking the heprin anyway at least untill 34 weeks and then she wants to have the talk again.
I am deathly afraid to stop as I am convinced they got us where we are now, but I do trust and love my doctor?
I too have APS, so bunnis and I have the same thing.
Trust your instincts and fight to stay on if you feel it's the right thing to do. It's expensive and I hate the shots (2X's daily is a lot), but it is all worth it.....

Don't get me wrong....I am not complaining nor do I have a problem continuing them through the entire pregnancy,,,,in fact I would prefer it for piece of mind. I just was certain my RE said only until 1st trimester is over and I was a little confused when I read everyones posts. I meet with her tomorrow though, so I will be sure to double check. I have a few more weeks until my 2nd trimester anyhow.

Oh God, why would she want to take you off at 34 weeks? The third trimester is especially a bad time for clotting. I was kept on until birth both times. While you will need to have a planned induction or C-section, it is much safer for the baby to stay on until the end. Good luck.

Bunnis ~ Well they say the numbers that matter aren't showing I have APS currently. I am well aware that can change at any time..... I told her I would think about it... They actually told me to stop already and I said no, so I'm thinking about it and not feeling good about it. I have an apt. on Tuesday with one of my favorite perinates so I will talk to him about my latest test results, but I just don't want to chance any thing.....
After these guys get here, I will be done building my family and I just can't wait to get there and I will do what I need to to get there.....
I almost wish I would have tested higher when I tested..... YOu know what I mean!

Nip ~ let us know what they tell you, there is still so much unknown and I hope you are working with a Perinate instead of just an OBGYN????
