If there is anyone out there reading this.....I need help with my doppler as well. All I am getting is a woosh woosh sound, not a galluping sound. Is that my blood rushing or the placenta? The woosh woosh sound is only in one spot and one angle and the monitor shows the heart symbol and heart rate of 120-130 (which is a little low).

Why would it be picking it up as a heart beat if it is not? Also, just because I was curious, I put the doppler over my heart and got a completely different sound, but the bpm was only 75. confused!

NLP - I have a Sonotrax B and I still get a whoosh sound most of the time, even at 24+ weeks. I've only heard the galloping sound 3 or 4 times with my doppler, and that was recently. I think it depends on where the baby is when you use it. Since you have the digital display and it says 120-130, I'd say you're definitely hearing the baby. Adult heartrates usually only get that high after a good 10-20 min of cardio. My doppler at home usually only registers in the high 120's to low 140's, but the doctors office seems to read high 140's, low 150's.

Don't stress it - looks like you're doing fine!

Thanks ladies. I tried again last night and my dh thought it was a gallup....the problem it, it is a gallop type rythem but a woosh type sound, if that make sense. So I was confused. Hopefully that is the heartbeat. I will keep trying every few days and maybe soon I will get an obvious gallup!

nlp, when i got the whooshing sound at first, it was only measuring about 110-114 bpm and i was worried b/c it was low (i was hearing the fetal blood flow). so, it's possible that you're picking up the fetal blood flow or that you're hearing the heartbeat through the placenta. i don't always get the galluping sound, but it was definitely more common the bigger he got. when you first get the doppler you really have to play around w/ it. sometimes i couldn't find the heartbeat and i'd give up looking after 5 minutes or so and go back in an hour and try again. it took me 3 tries one time to find the heartbeat. hang in there! practice makes perfect!

oh, and early on, i always found that angling the doppler to where it was pointing down definitely helped find the heartbeat.
