Dre- yes I am currently on tamiflu. My kids' peds told me to call my OB as soon as I left the office. So I called as soon as I got in the car and my OB called me back within 2-3 minutes (LOVE HER)!! She called the med in for me right away and I started them that night. Alex is so much better!!! The fever is gone but has another 3 days on the meds. I am just thankful that we caught this early enough. I haven't heard that if a child gets a live flu mist that they can't be around other people or pregnant people. Jacob got a regular flu mist in September and we didn't have any issues. Hmmmm, I'll have to ask my OB on Monday. Jacob is due to get it the beginning of November (at school). This is such a scary time for everyone!!

Trisha ~ the perinates are who told me to stay away from our kids if we use the mist for 48 hours. Because it's a live virus there are particles shed and it could harm the fetus. I don't know how likely it is, but they said to be safe 48 hours is more than enough????? Because I have twins and am considered a high risk pregnancy, we'll do what it takes, but I'm going to miss my babies!!!!!!
Glad to hear Alex is doing better ~ I hope the family heals soon and there are no more scares..... BIG HUGS to you and I'm glad we are doing this together again!!!!

well i'm glad to know i wasn't the only one starting to freak out! i still think this is insane. every night there's something on the news about it and pictures of people getting a vaccine.....where are these people? i'm in pa and none of my dr's have it yet, and the expected arrival dates keep getting pushed back.
i had a minor panic attack, okay, a major panic attack yesterday when i came down with a fever. i had felt like i was getting a cold for a few days, ears hurting and sinuses stuffy. i always get sinus infections, but never a fever. my dr. told me to come in immediately and the swabed my nose to test for flu A and B. it came back negative and she really seems confident it's from the sinus infection. my fever did come down by this morning but is back slightly tonight. hopefully by tomorrow my antibiotics will have kicked in and everything will be okay. i'm just so thankful it's not the flu and i don't even care how horrible i feel....which is pretty bad at the moment. so take care of yourselves ladies and all i can say is what my dr. said....the second you feel ANY symptom, clal the dr. we can't be too safe with all this!

They tested me and my husband also but we both came back negative for A & B but they said it may be too early, so just be careful. Just because you test negative at first doesnt mean you for sure don't have it.

I'm usually pretty relaxed about flu stuff and hate taking meds and such unnecessarily. I only got the regular flu vaccine for the first time this year because of the pregnancy!
Anyway, I've decided to go ahead and get the H1N1 vaccine. My OB says to go ahead, and my regular doc's office was ready to give it to me way back when I got the regular shot. I'm in Maryland. I'm a teacher (high school) too and suddenly there are several cases at the school, some of which are my own students. I hope it's the right decision.

I am in my 2ww but I went ahead and got the H1N1 shot. I was really on the fence but I also have asthma so I didn't want to risk it. Check with your regional heath district to see if they have the shot available. I had to go to a local arena at 6:30 in the am and wait for the doors to open at 9am. There were literally thousands of people waiting. Since I got the shot my anxiety level has really gone down. I hope a speedy recovery to all those who are sick right now.

I wasn't overly worried until my ulcerative colitis flared up and I have now been put on a huge dose of Prednisone. Apparently the combination of the disease and the Prednisone suppress my immune system to almost nothing and I work in an elementary school! There were 2/3 of one class out yesterday, some with confirmed H1N1 and some with flu symptoms. My DH and I have literally spent most of the day trying to track down an H1N1 shot since it could be deadly to both me and the baby if I get it, but NO ONE HAS IT!! It's driving us crazy with worry! You are definitely not alone in your fears...

The H1N1 is just running rampant in my area. 2 of my neighbor's kids have it and several friends have kids home with the virus. However, my entire county hasn't gotten a vaccine in since the swabs that they got months ago for the healthcare workers...so we just wait. I'm getting nervous and frustrated and wondering where all those vaccines are? You guys seem to have great access to them...my OB had me down for an appt for the vaccine today but had to cancel when the shipment was delayed again. I'm not usually nervous about these things but being pregnant and having asthma, I'm in a very high risk group. On a good note, a lot of the cases around here seem to be somewhat mild...

We are seeing a ton of H1N1 cases in our area. I work in a county hospital and just yesterday a woman delivered 34 week twins and she died from complications of H1N1. Her babies are in the NICU where I work. I was so glad to get the vaccine today as I've had so much anxiety over this. They don't have the thimerasol free vaccine here so I took a chance and got it anyway and hope everything will be fine.

On Friday there was a message on my machine that the hospital where I'm going to deliver was receiving a batch and to come for the free shot Sunday afternoon if I wanted it. It was for pregnant patients only. I am not big on this whole shot thing, but decided to do it because I'm pregnant and because I want her to have at least some protection if possible once born. She will be a newborn in the middle of flu season and with no/little immune system for a while. So, I went. They had 1200 doses. I walked right in and right out. There was almost no one there. They had more nurses and staff helping than they did women receiving it. I was surprised because they only called pregnant women, and I would think that a higher percentage of pregnant women would get it than in the general pop. Anyway, my arm is still sore, and I hope I did the right thing. I guess (hopefully) I'll never know if it was the right thing to do because I (hopefully) won't get swine flu now. Does anyone know (a) how long until you're at maximum protection after receiving the shot and (b) does anyone have any idea of how much of that protection is passed on to the baby? I don't know if anyone knows these answers since the swine flu in particular is more of a recent development, and is not as well studied as the regular flu, but any info is appreciated.
