Nausea is NOT my friend

Ladies, I have been pretty sick since 7 days after transfer. People kept saying, that is too soon to be an indicator of BFP...had first beta yesterday. It was a whopping 1,979. God willing these high numbers are a result of the two A quality embabies put in me. We will know after next beta and first US. Until then can someone tell me how to combat the weirdest nausea I have ever had. Even after eating, I dry heave and feel like hell. What did you do to help yourself? (I am 40, first baby(ies))

Rach sorry the nausea is so bad already. Mine didn't start right away, but did catch up to me. My doctor prescribed me Diclectin, and that helped immensely.

I had it bad with Tristan and peppermint tea and crackers were my best friends until 12 weeks. Also Ginger helped me.

If it is very bad meaning you can't eat or drink at all, can't keep anything down and end up dehydrated/hospital then ask your dr for a prescription medication to help.

Some web sites also recommend eating smaller more frequent meals instead of 3 big ones....also try to take your prenatal at night to avoid throwing it up (I still do this at 32 weeks cause they make my tummy flip).

I ate crackers/pretzels as soon as my feet hit the floor in the morning. Keeping something in my stomach, whether hungry or not, helped a lot. I took prenatals at night, before bed. And when I started gagging a lot (that will come, too), I used chewable vitamins during that phase. 2 Flinstones = your prenatals. Otherwise, just eat whatever your body can tolerate. I stuck to plain foods for a while, and what I could tolerate changed daily. If you can't eat much, at least try to stay hydrated.

Congrats on the . I have triplets and the doctors kept telling me that when you are pg with multiples that you are more nausous then normal. I bet you have more then one. . When I was pg I asked the doctor for something. It worked wonderful. I only got sick twice when I was pg. Once again congrats!

Rachel, nausea is no one's friend. (But it sounds like it has it in for you!) Mine was horrible, and it lasted until 14-16 weeks, during which time I could hardly get anything down and suffered a lot of dry heaving.

Here are the best tips I can think of:

1. Peppermint tea. It actually helps.

2. Peppermint gum. (Not wintergreen, not spearmint). Keep some handy with you at all times. I found out that the Mentos "Pure" gum -- available at just about any store -- could quell a burst of nausea in 15-30 seconds. This is particularly effective if you're in the middle of shopping and suddenly want to throw up...

3. Crackers by your bedside for the middle of the night and first thing in the morning.

4. Ginger tea, ginger gum. Ginger is your friend.

5. Get as much EXTRA REST as you possibly can. You'll feel worse from the nausea if you're tired, and the first few months, baby, you're gonna feel tired.

6. Don't eat what you don't want to. If a craving strikes, EAT IT. You might find that a dinner you normally would have loved sounds abhorrent, so skip it. 20 minutes later a pickle dipped in fudge sauce sounds like something you'd kill for, so eat it. And don't worry about your choices too much -- worry will also make the nausea worse.

In the midst of the worst of my nausea, (9-12 weeks), I craved cup-o-noodles. It was THE ONLY thing I could bear to swallow. It sustained me. Now, the very thought of it makes me want to wretch! You're going to go through that with different foods too, but don't worry about it.

Hang in there, go veeeerrrrrryyyyy slowly, and know that each day of nausea is a day your body is doing what it's supposed to for your growing baby(ies), and that every week is a week closer to when you won't be nauseus any more.

Ain't new pregnancy... uh... "fun"? hehehe

Hi Rachel,

I started getting sick in between my 1st and 2nd beta. We transfered 2 and my first beta was really high at 775 16 days after retrival, so we were concerned that one of them could have split, but it didn't. Just had high hormone levels throughout the entire first trimester.

I think every women responds differently, hope it isn't too bad for you.

Could just be an indication that both implanted.

Just keep trying different foods to see what bothers you the least and then stick with that. Remember to keep trying to eat through the nausea. Sounds insane, but it does help to have something in your stomach.

Good luck and keep us posted!!

Thanks ladies.

I have found sipping regular ginger ale helps me. Never feel quite OK...now I am having issues on the "other end". I think whatever is going on, my body is saying "WTF?"
Thanks I will try everything to see what works.

Congrats Rachel!! Ive also heard nausea is more severe with multiples. The only thing I have yet to throw up is Libbys Lemon Italian Ice near the Popsicles. I lived on those for 4 weeks. Sublingual Zofran has been my best friend. I still take 1 a day or so but my nausea is 100X better. The good news is for 99% of women it gets better.

Rachel - so happy for you CoNGRATS!! Ive heard sour things help mild nausea - like drinking lemonade, eating sour lemon candy, preggie pops are sour too. I think if your nausea is moderate to severe the only thing that will help is Zofran though. when is your u/s?

Firstly, congrats on your pregnancy!! We are naming our lo rachel so great name.

The key to m/s is to never let your stomach get empty, if that means waking up and munching at night do so. Ginger ale, yes anything ginger is great, gum is good as well. Carbs were my friend, bagels helped me, fruit smoothies were also good when i couldn't keep anything down as well. Lemonade, pickles, yes sour things were all good for me. Prenatal vitamin was a hard one for me, i went to the children's chewable then the adult chewable then my doc prescribed a prenatal which worked but it was hard getting it down. I'm sure your ob will tell you to stop taking it if it gives you trouble.

Keep on trying different things, I know its hard to get super excited when you feel so bad and everyone told me it would get better. Sometimes, I didn't believe them but it did for me at least. If you are not eating or keeping things down they will prescribe something for you. Oh I also tried the nausea bands, i was desperate! good luck
