Hospital....

Well last Thursday morning we went to the hospital for the routine stress tests. They noticed a lot of contractions during the test and sent Elizabeth to the triage. She was contracting too much they thought and they gave her a shot of terbutaline to stop the contractions. They monitored her a few more hours, still heavily contracting so they gave another shot. She was admitted and then they gave her a steroid shot to assist with the boys lungs in case they were to come. The next day the contractions were still there so more terb. followed by the second steroid shot. By Saturday afternoon they finally released her to go home. So these boys may be coming any day now!! She has to go for another stress test today and if they notice heavy contracting they will keep her again. I am getting really scared and nervous and anxious. I have come into work and now she is home alone so I am worried about that too. Luckily I only work 5 minutes from home... I will keep everyone updated!!!

How exciting! I wish all of you the best. It's good that they were able to stabalize things enough to send her home. Do they know about how much each baby weighs? Good luck & keep us posted!

Oh, George! Did the shots make her shake?? My legs shook for a little while (like 10 min.). Are they having her take the medication orally, too? I have to take it every 4 hours until 37 weeks. Hope she can hang in there another week. :-)

The shots make her heart race and she does get a little shaky. They did not prescribe anything orally though. They estimate that each boy is about 5-5 1/2 lbs.

Wow George, it does sound like those babies are ready to make their grand entrance whether the doctors want them to or not. Good thing you are so close to home and I'm sure you'll be calling to check in on her from time to time. I know you both are ready to meet these two little men. My nephew was born on Saturday and I have to tell you there is no greater joy then the birth of a child whether it's your own or someone elses. Best of luck to you both, keep us posted when you can. We'll be praying for you.

Hi George,

This is a very scary time for both of you. I know, I've lived through it. I started with preterm labor around 27 weeks and was on bed rest (not strict) at home. I was admitted a few times and had terbutaline and it made me feel like I was having a heart attack. That's what the meds do.

Your wife is doing an awesome job housing those babies and if she can hold on even for another two weeks, things will be much better for the boys. I know it's hard. Please PM me privately if you have any questions. I know how difficult it is to go through this but from contractions at 27 weeks to hard contractions around week 33, I still held on until 37 weeks to deliver. I hope she is as lucky.

Our prayers are with you.

Oh and GO COLTS!

The good news is that she just finished the stress test and they let her go home!!! Her girlfriend took her to the appt. We have another stress test this Thursday followed by an OB visit immediately afterward.

Thanks everyone for the concern. Everything just really feels weird to me all of a sudden. My mind can focus on nothing but my wife and my boys. I was walking around the maternity floor when Elizabeth was there and all these newborns and new parents were all around me. It felt surreal to me. All the newborns are SO BEAUTIFUL. I just can not wait!

Go Colts..( reluctantly)!!

That is good news, everyday counts so tell Elizabeth to keep up the good work. You need to buy her a big spa package to pamper her with after the boys arrive and she has some time to recover, she's done an awesome job with this pregnancy.

I just had to add that Colts thing in there because the Eagles are out. You got to vote for someone! Just kidding.

Yea, I have to do something big for her.. The spa is a good idea, she has gone a few times during the pregnancy already. We'll see.

I won't root for the Colts.. My Bears are still around! You know that I always visit NW Indiana and that is Bear country there so I somehow adopted the Bears as my back-up team. I actually like all the Chicago teams as my secondary teams!!!

It's alright, I was just kidding and giving you a hard time. This was the first year that I watched the whole football season so I feel like I have a better leg up before the Super Bowl this year.
