subchorionic hemorrhage or tear?

Hello ladies ... I was diagnosed last week with a subchorionic hemorrhage or tear. I was wondering if anyone else might have any words of wisdom about this? I am doing some research, but was wondering if any other ladies have had this?

Thank you!
Lacy

Hi Lacy -

I had a subchorionic hemorrhage. I was told by my RE that I may experience some bleeding and not to freak out if I do because it is to be expected. Well, we both know I still would have freaked out! I never did bleed and the S.H. was noted on my weekly u/s through week 12, I believe. I was told by both my RE and my OB that a S.H. is quite common in pregnant women, but most don't even know they have one because they do not get u/s as early as we IVFers do. If I can offer one bit of advice - do not research it online!! I did and was totally freaked out for nothing. That's the problem with the internet - you never know who is posting what or how reliable the source is, plus people only tend to post when they have a bad experience (I don't mean on here, I mean on the internet in general).

I hope you have a happy and healthy 9 months! Feel free to PM me if there is anything else you want to ask or such.

xoxo

I had bleeding due to low lying placenta at 13 weeks. In the u/s report, S. H. was mentioned. It was basically diagnosed as low lying placenta which was establishing itself and a small portion of it tore off..the bleeding lasted for a couple of days and we were terrified...i was immediately put on complete bed rest...and meds to stop the bleeding...regular ultrasounds were done after every couple of days to monitor my situation. Thank God the nightmare is over...

Have they told you whether it is due to placenta or any other reason...it is very important to take care of this as around this time baby's support system is forming and if there is a tear etc. it may hinder the proper nutrition to the baby...

Take care and good luck!

Lacy, I was diagnosed with a subchorionic hemorrhage at 10 weeks. The RE said it can be from the implantation site and the tear starts. Fortunately when the placenta begins to function around 12 weeks the issue begins to slowly resolve. The first bleeding episode I had was absolutely terrifying. I knew there was no way my baby made it. But when I got to the RE the next morning he was still in there- completely unaware of what was going on. Don't go reading the info on the internet because it is scarey and often misleading. Subschorionic hematomas are common but most women spot and aren't diagnosed- I guess that's the good and bad part that we are followed so closely. It is when there is a large enough tear in between the uterine wall that it is diagnosed on ultrasound. Mine was very large and I bled ALOT! The blood has to either come out or be absorbed over time. It was bright red with large clots- just like a period. I had 3 or 4 gushes over a 5 week period in between the gushes it was a brown flow. I had weekly ultrasounds to monitor the tear to make sure it did not progress to the placenta and cause further damage. That is where the danger lies. I am a RN so my OB felt it was best for me to stop working until the bleed resolved completely. She said if I had a desk job it probably wouldn't be as harsh on my body to be on my feet for 12 hrs. I was put on "pelvic rest" and told no BD, careful with coughing and straining with constipation and not to pick up anything heavier than a gallon of milk. Like I said , the internet is full of personal stories and they vary widely. Doctors treat this vey differently. My OB said she has had a few patients transported to the hospital bleeding severly and received blood but still went on to have successful pregnancies. I don't want to scare you I just want you to know your baby can do just fine!! My bleed was very large. I was to scared to ask for measurements but it extended across the top of my uterus and down the left side. Thankfully it stopped at the edge of my placenta on the right side. It finally was completely gone by my 23rd week. I stopped bleeding completely around week 18-20. I am a worst case scenario. Hopefully yours doesn't even compare. I know you are scared and worried but just take it easy and listen to your body. I will be 30 weeks on Friday and have a healthy baby boy. I got to see him weekly and it was amazing to know he was there and completely unbothered. I probably should have pm'd you but I wanted anyone else who may deal with this to know- there is definetly a lack of info available. Please feel free to pm me if I can help you- I truly know how scarey this can be!
I am praying for you!!! Soon you will have a beautiful baby and this will all be behind you!!

Well you ladies are correct ... DO NOT research this on the internet. There are some scary things out there about this. But for the most part I have found this to be pretty common and not a problem if monitored. The bleeding was not bad, but was red which TOTALLY scared me ... I had dark brown spotting and today almost all gone, just hope it stays that way! I have another ultrasound tomrorow again. I did end up ordering a doppler to hopefully make me feel better if this happens again.

The radiologist had a hard time even finding the bleeding/tear on the ultrasound (the tech had to show him! hehe). I thank you for your experiences and helpful advice.

Thank you
Lacy

I had one too, but no bleeding and it went away after the 12th week. Just take it easy and don't strain.
Good luck.

This just happened to me this week. We didn't know it was there - had u/s about 2 1/2 weeks ago. Well, I was out to dinner with a group of friends, had just announced we were pregnant with twins - within about 15 minutes, I started bleeding. Bright red, through panties and jeans. I was freaking out.
The next morning, the u/s showed 2 healthy, strong heartbeats on my twins, and a small amount of blood still in the lower part of my uterus.
My doc didn't really give me a reason, just said it's fairly common. I go back in on Wednesday for another u/s. I was also put on light duty - not strict bedrest - just take it easy. So, I haven't been far from my couch - not easy with a 2 1/2 year old ds running around. My mom will fly in this weekend to help out!! What a blessing!!

Anyway - it was quite scary, but sounds like everything will be okay in the end!!
I pray same for you!!
