Outfits for the baby

I am planning to start shopping from next week once I know the sex of the babies. There can be no end to the stuff we buy for babies. But with 2 it can get a little expensive. How many outfits does a newborn need from day1? Can they dirty clothes a lot when they are that little? My friend said sometimes the diapers leek too. SO how many should I buy for one baby???

Plus, what size 0-3? or they grow fast out of it?

I just found out from my baby classes that the average number of outfits a baby will go through is 3 a day. obviously it might be more or less depending on the situation of the day. I don't think there is really a set number on how many they should have but if you start with 3 a day for each baby and then from there it depends on how often you want to do laundry You'll want to start with 0-3 months. maybe since your having twins, preemie sizes would work too. most of the preemie sizes are good for up to 10 lbs. but they would fit a little more snug for a smaller baby. have fun shopping!!

I wouldn't buy to many, they grow so fast! mine seem to live in the same pjs all the time, and I didn't go through 3 a day ever and both of mine spit up all the time because of reflux. with two get a lot of yellow and green so they can share outfits. if you end up with preemie don't bother with preemie size clothes, by the time you get the home and a week goes by they will not fit anymore!

I recommend buying the 'Baby Bargains' book as it answers all these tough questions. It narrows it down to what you do and don't need.

I also suggest going on ebay and seeing whats on sale there. I've been worried about all the stuff I need to buy too...but you'll be amazed at the items people are selling on there for the price. Some of its brand new, others gently used. I managed to purchase the other day 80 baby boy clothing items for a mere $42 dollars...now that was fun!

I am going to get a lot of hand-me downs - both boy and girl clothes. I don't find out the sex until next week, but in the beginning months I think I am not going to be too picky. He/she won't know the difference anyway!

People are going to give you clothes at your shower & when the babies are born so don't go crazy shopping. But if you can't resist - shop consignment. Unless formula fed babies do not stain their clothes so the market is saturated in sizes 0-12mo/... To answer your ? my DD spit up allot so between that & diaper leeks we could at times have to change her (& me!) 3-4 times!

As I was separating & organizing all my babies clothes into drawers today I told DH that if the triplets were our 1st (s) I would have asked everyone to just buy them unisex clothes for the 1st 6 months or so. I just think it would have made life easier. Now I have 3 catagories, boy, girl & unisex.

Happy Shopping!

yeah Carina you are right...I shouldn't go crazy shopping. So far I just bought 6 onisee (did I spell it right?). I couldn't resist them...they were in cute yellow color and one of them said "I love my mommy" and the other said " I love my daddy" so I had to buy those. they are so cute. I haven't bought any outfits yet since am not sure about the sex of our babies. I have an u/s tom hopefully these guys will cooperate.

We have clothes out the wazoo! With DS he was still in 0-3m clothes when he was 6m, he was very tiny. Just remember that what ever you buy or receive as gifts to not wash everything right away. We learned the hard way. We had so many clothes that we could have returned for different sized that we washed right away and he never got to wear them. We could have saved a lot of money in the long run. This time we washed about half of what we got and kept tags on everything else. A lot of people don't want to mess with the laundry afterwards, but what is a couple more outfits when your already having to do it anyways!

My son went through about two to three at first. But once his acid reflux kicked in it wasn't surprising to go through four or five. Plus with boys (and girls) there are those early days when they will pee on you or themselves during the diaper changes. With twins I'd recommend buying newborn clothes which say they go up to 8 lbs but my little guy came into the world over 8 lbs and was able to wear most of his until about last week. We have about five pairs of sleepers that we use quite often. When you are home on maternity leave it's just easier to leave them in sleepers then to get them all dressed up. Also gowns are helpful in the hospital so that they still feel wrapped up and can pull their legs in. Keep in mind the seasons and what ages the babies will be as they change. I have more 3-6 month clothes that are heavy and long sleeve that I fear Ethan won't get to wear because it's coming on summer and he's almost 2 months old now. Keep in mind that the sizes are based on weight more so then months. Hope this helps.

Wow who knew buying clothes for your little ones can be so complicated. I hope they fit into the regular clothes when they are born. 0-3 months...don't they hold kids upto 10 pounds?

0-3 months normally is up to about 12-13 pounds. My son is starting to grow out of some of his 0-3 month sleepers now. Just like with our adult clothes some brands fit differently. So he has one newborn outfit that still fits and plenty of 0-3 month outfits but in others he's already wearing 3-6 months. I never thought he'd be growing out of so much so quick. Some of these outfits really don't stand a chance.

I bought SO much for C like the very day I found out girl, due in April so sundresses galore...first, all she wore were onsies and had reflux so maybe 5 a day, at least, and second, I didn't plan on having a 5.5 lb baby so she didn't wear ANY of it as she was in preemie all summer so I wouldn't buy too much and people will give you tons! And the flip happened to C's buddy who came in at 9+ lbs and outgrew his 0-3 in maybe a week. The gerber footed PJs that come in a 3 pack are awesome though.
