Feeding Bottles for babies - New study.

Found this recent study on plastic bottles for babies.

Stanford Q&A: David Feldman on risk of bisphenol A in plastic bottles - Office of Communications & Public Affairs - Stanford University School of Medicine

I was thinking of using glass bottles for my babies. I have couple of questions though??

1. Which brand to buy?
2. Where are they available??
3. Aren't they heavy??
4. What size should I buy for my newborn twins??
5. WHen they grow older am sure the bottle size changes too??
6. How do I sanitize the bottles and nipples?
7. How often do I have to do that?

I will also use glass bottles. I feed my Best friend's son at times with glass bottles. I don't think they are too heavy. He is six months old and can hold them himself for a short time (before he loses focus on the task).

cat915- I just checked this website. Sounds good to me. I also looked at Dr. Browns ones but they are so expensive..2 bottles for $15. How many do you need initially??

Interesting article!!!! Born Free, which are finally at BRU, are BPA free plastic and light, and also more expensive but apparently very worth it. And Avent sippy cups are also BPA free even though it is in the small print.

We haven't really done a whole lot of research on bottles yet since we still have quite a bit of time until it becomes relevant, but I had initially thought that I would like to use glass bottles. The only thing I've read that makes me reconsider is that there is the possibility that they can shatter if you drop them.

I was originally going to go with the Born Free glass bottles but I have a tile floor in the kitchen which is not forgiving if you drop something. I have learned that the hard way... They also make plastic BPA free bottles too! I found this site that lists BPA free bottles and other baby items.

My next step is to try and figure out which bottle is best for the baby as far as preventing gas, etc. Any ideas?

I've found Dr. Browns bottles are best for babies with colic/gas problems.

The last foster baby had a horrible time with gas and fussiness. We switched him to "gentlease" formula as well as switched his bottles to Dr. Browns and the change in his gas/fussiness was immediately apparent by the next day. He was completely a different baby after that.

I've used them in the past with other babies as well.

I did see them at babies-r-us recently with both plastic and glass bottles available in different shapes and sizes.

(since you have triplets on the way you may want to check out those special bottles that work like a pacifier to help free up your hands in feeding all the babies at one time. They are also supposed to be good for gas problems.)

I bought the Evenflo glass bottles. I have a friend who has been using them for her premie born at 29wks, so they must work for premies! I am not planning on bottle feeding much - I am a huge breastfeeding advocate & therefore plan to tandom nurse, that said I only ordered 18 & they were totally afforadable! If for some reason my babies really need to use bottles & these are not working out I plan to try Born Free glass or Dr.Browns glass.

I ordered some 5oz & 8oz (or 9). If the babies like the bottles I will change the nipple sizes as they grow & hand down the smaller 5oz bottles when the 8oz are the size they are using.

As far as sterilizing - I will just put the bottles in the dishwasher & wash the nipples by hand in very warm soapy water, as I think plastics of any/all kinds breakdown more rapidly when subjected to the extreme heat of the DW.

The Evenflo bottles were available at Amazon.com the shipping was free!

Happy shopping (or registering :-)

laughing at your "only 18" carina. I think i have 20 and it's plenty V- and my little guy takes 4 bottles a day at daycare (no other baby there takes more than 4 bottles). I run the dishwasher every night or every other night, i pump right into 4 bottles for the next day- so 16 would have been okay too w/ running the dishwasher every other night. I have dropped one- it didn't shatter-pretty darn durable in my opinion, but i don't have ceramic floors....
