ON-Q for Cesarean incision

Have any of you heard of, used, or know someone that had ON-Q inserted after a cesarean delivery? I was just reading through a book and thought it was interesting....I've never heard of this and I don't believe I've heard any of you reference it before. Here's what the book says about it:

"One device being used to help deal with the pain after a cesarean is ON-Q. It consists of a small catheter inserted underneath the skin, which sends a local painkiller to the incision area of the cesarean to help relieve pain. Studies show moms who receive ON-Q after having a cesarean are able to get out of bed and walk around more quickly than those who receive only narcotics. Their hospital stays are also shorter. The system delivers medication to the pain site instead of sending it though your body, so very little, if any, medication can get to your baby through your breast milk."

Oo, never heard of this, but this is good to know about incase I end up with a c-section. I've always worried about the drugs messing with my breastmilk.

I work in labor and delivery and from what I hear from the postpartum nurses, the on-q pumps are fabulous.

Carie-

Thanks for posting this. I will definitely ask this to my ob/gyn next time I see him. My C-section is scheduled for October 13th and I know what the pain of a c-section is and the recovery time because I had a myomectomy last year and I am not looking forward to go through the same pain again.

Thanks again!
