Yesterday I had my OB appt and it went well. I was talking to my OB about my manager that I haven't told her yet about my pregnancy. My problem is that I am a contractor and she likes me and told me already that she will hire me once my contract is over..which is about end of june. I am 19 weeks pregnant with twins. My worry is that what if she doesn't hire me...thinking I have to go on maternity leave pretty soon?? Also I am looking forward to the insurance I will be offered by this company. Ummm....actually I am not really worried about the insurance since I am covered under my DH insurance but I don't want to sit home that early before the babies arrive.

Also not sure how to approach her and tell her the news? I am already showing. Probably she hasn't noticed yet or maybe she wants to hear it from me??? Any suggestions on what I should do??

I say just be honest. It's better to have open and honest communication then anything. Let her know that you have fears and apprehensions and let her take the wheel. It can't hurt to try and broach the topic. Let her know that you are pregnant, yes you may face bedrest but there is no way to know that just yet. There are some in their 30+ weeks that aren't on bedrest. Everyone is different.

Well, it would be illegal for her not to hire you for that reason (but of course I understand why you are worried). But V, you're 19 weeks with twins - she must know already! I would tell her.

Sometimes people are afraid to ask unless it's 100% clear. I'm always afraid of assuming someone's pregnant when really they've just put on a few pounds! Also she could be waiting for you to break it to her on your own terms. Employers are usually wary of bringing that sensitive stuff up out of the blue.

I would definitely tell her. The fact that she hasn't asked you and you are showing may indicate that she is going to respond in a professional way, first of all by not crossing the line and prying into your personal life and, second, that job offer may still be there for you!! Go for it and tell her!! The last thing you want to happen is to over do yourself and suddenly end up on bed rest. Most bosses are pretty cool when it comes to people having babies and maternity leave and if she isn't and discriminates against you ~ do you really want to work for her?

yeah you are right. So since you are a guru in this subject tell me something...since I am in a contract to hire position and my contract ends sometime end of June or early July..can she not hire me because I am pregnant? Plus, she would be thinking that she will be out for 3 months as soon as I hire her so its better not to hire her. Isn't that illegal though?

Technically, it would be illegal for her not to hire you for that reason. But proving someone's true motivations for a discretionary decision is always another story altogether.

That being said, I imagine she's on the up and up and wouldn't decide not to hire you for that reason. If anything she would probably want to be cautious.

i agree with Kelly, however, the biggest issue is that even if she does hire you, you would not qualify for FMLA as you would not meet the eligibility criteria, so she could hire you and the company is not obligated to hold your job while you are out.

I guess today I am going to tell her. I hope I still have the job...if not I would love my time off with my babies.

Finally I told my boss..Wohoooooooo. She was okay with it. Not sure why I was so worried?? I guess it was the first time..huh??

Well, she was excited for me and congratulated me. I even told her that its twins. Her only concern was will I work after I have the babies and I said offcourse. She was happy with the decision. She also mentioned that my contract is getting over in first week of June and I will get an employee hire packet next week sometime.

I am so excited. So I guess now its official at work. My coworkers already knew though.

Ok ladies tell me something..if I take insurance from my new company will they cover my pregnancy and delivery expenses or it is a pre-existing condition for them??
I had Kaiser from my previous job which ended in dec and then I bought it on my own for the last couple of months since my RE was in kaiser. My new company is going to give me Kaiser. Since I have no loss is coverage it should not be an pre-existing condition correct?? or I am wrong?
