Clomid anyone?

Hi, I'm new here to this message board. My husband and I have been trying to concieve for three years. Went to the fertility doctor and thru testing she feels that I ovulate to late or not at all. So she started me on clomid. I've done it for three months and now she has taken me off and I have another appointment with her in September. My question is this, has anyone else had this situation and what was the next step for you?

My husband and I are getting tired of all the doctors appoints, test and clomid side effects. So we are looking into adoption. We both feel that this may be the way that God is leading us.

Thank you for any help you can give!

you wrote....""My husband and I are getting tired of all the doctors appoints, test and clomid side effects. So we are looking into adoption. We both feel that this may be the way that God is leading us.""

Gosh you sounder smarter then I did a few years ago, 7 years of IF, 4 years of treatment starting with Clomid, then injectables with insemination, then surgery, then clomid, then they check husbands sperm again, oops, we missed something, can only conceive with help they tell us, onward to IVF twice and FET. Horray, they got me pregnant for two weeks, mc..... grieved....almost divorced....marriage counseling and then adoption...whew..... don't think you want to go there.....

oh yeah, let's not forget all the doctors apts, ultrasounds where they feel like they are sticking you with a knife because your ovaries are so swollen and they need a good count, the cold doctors rooms, the laughs between surgical staff during procedures when you are TOTALLY exposed and oh yeah, those wonderful pregnancy test days. The fights between dh and I, the tears, the heartaches, the frustration. Gosh...wish I could have missed it all...

You could save yourself alot of heartache and time by considering adoption now and saving your money. I wish someone would have told me sooner. The only plus... by waiting I wouldn't have my little girl...

Good luck to you!!!

clomid

I have been on clomid several times also. We have been trying for 2 yrs. After my first 3 month round of clomid( and I am very regular) they looked elsewhere. I had a laparoscopy and they discovered endometriosis! I had no symptoms except that for yrs. I was told that I had irritable bowel syndrome.

Turns out the adhesions were on my bowel and had stuck my left fallopian tube together with my bowel. My right tube is blocked and they can not fix it. I do consider the surgery a great success because I now have one good tube and no irritable bowel problems at all. My quality of life has improved greatly.

So, 18 months of trying down the tubes, so to speak, back on clomid for 3 months to see if that helps. We are looking into adoption. I know that I do not want to get injections or IVF. I still have timed insemination to try, but that is it for us.

I am trying to come to terms with this huge loss, and move my mind set toward adoption. It takes time.

Hi all,
I've been on on clomid four cycles and three of them were combined with IUI. They all failed. We have been recommended to move on to IVF but we're not sure that's what we want to do. It's a tough decision. I know how hard this infertility issue is, we have been trying for four years. I'm Ok with IUI (from an ethical standpoint) but we're not sure about IVF. We are getting burnt out on the treatments, too. Valentine, just wondering: What made you so certain that IVF was not for you?

helene33, clomid....

what has made me so sure are several things-
-my husband really feels that IVF is messing with nature, plus the success rate is too low. Also the cost.
-IVF and also the hormone shots alot of times result in multiple births, which my husband does not want and frankly at 38, neither do I. I would not be able to selectively reduce the number of fetus either.
-last but not least, I have a very regular cycle with good eggs! Husbands sperm is good, If the timed insemination does not work, I feel that nothing will. We are hoping that since my surgery (6 months ago) we will be able to get pregnant on our own. The doctor fears a return of the endometriosis, so they are trying everything to speed things up.

Hope this answer helps. Just because we know where we are going to stop, has not made it any easier to deal with the impending grief of my own infertility and moving on to adoption.

If they haven't already, before you spend any more money on meds, make them check your tubes. Also, have them check for PCOS. I ended up spending a lot of money on meds when both my tubes were completely damaged.

On a better note, my friend ahad tried for years and during her tube test the dye unblocked her tubes and she now has two little boys.

clomid......

What is PCOS?

We already now the my right tube is blocked and 2 rounds of the dye test did nothing to clear it. My left tube is healthy, but up until 6 months ago, was adhered to my bowel and pulled out or position. This has been corrected.

Thanks for everyones imput. I know that my tubes are clear, when I had the HSG the dye went right through. I also know that my uterus is back and tilted to the left. However they say that this does not interfer with fertility. I think (however so many doctor appointment and tests have combinded into one another) that the next step would be a sergical test to get a close look at everything? Does this sound right? If it is the next step I don't think I want to go that way, because I've already had alot of surgery through out my life. As for injectable fertility drugs, it kind of scares my husband and I because of the higher number of multipal births. We were comfortable with clomid because it had few risks or side effects.

So it looks as though the Lord is directing us in a new way of adoption. For the most part once I made this decision it seemed to bring relief to me (the rollercoster of waiting for my period was devestating each month). Now I know I'll have a child I just don't know when.

What is PCOS?

PCOS stands for PolyCystic Ovary Syndrome, a.k.a. Polycystic Ovary Disease and Stein-Leventhal Syndrome (after the team that identified it). PCOS can be treated, BUT NOT CURED. Although this medical condition has been known by the medical field for many years, it hasn't received much exposure. Some medical experts believe as much as 10 percent of women are affected by PCOS. Women who think they may have PCOS are urged to see a doctor for diagnosis and treatment.

What are some of the signs and symptoms of PCOS?

Note: You may very well not have all of the symptoms below, and you may experience them mildly or severely. Ask your doctor if you are experiencing any of the following:

Weight gain (particularly on the midriff) and/or inability to lose weight

Enlarged ovaries containing many small cysts

Pelvic Pain

Excess facial and body hair (Hirsutism)

Acne, particularly on the jawline

Oily Skin

Hair loss (alopecia, particularly male pattern baldness

Irregular menstrual cycles, such as very heavy or very light

Lack of menstrual cycles (amenorrhea)

Difficulty in becoming pregnant

Infertility

High or increasing blood pressure

Insulin Resistance or Diabetes

Hormonal Imbalance --- Increased Male Hormones

Brown pigmentation of the skin, particularly in the groin and armpit area (acanthosis nigricans )- with velvety or 'cat's tongue' feel to it.

Skin Tags

Decreased breast size

High Cholesterol

High Triglycerides

Mood swings

Tired, fatigued feeling

Decreased sex drive

Enlarged uterus

Situational depression and anxiety

Insulin Resistance

Not only is PCOS a leading cause of infertility, but this condition also increases women's chances of Heart Disease, Diabetes Type 2, hardening of the arteries, hypertension and Uterine Cancer. PCOS can be diagnosed with the help of a vaginal ultrasound and blood tests. In the past, women were commonly treated symptomatically, but fortunately a growing number of doctors are recognizing the above symptoms and are learning to treat the whole package. It is very important to receive treatment if you have PCOS

How is it treated?

Most women see an endocrinologist (gland specialist) or gynecologist for treatment. For now, the center points of this syndrome are the pancreas and the ovaries, as the body needs to regulate the production of insulin and other hormones.

One of the major ways to treat PCOS is to lose weight. Weight loss will
help lower insulin levels (as well as reduce risk of heart disease). Obese women will see an improvement of symptoms with weight loss, but unfortunately these women also have a very difficult time achieving that loss! Insulin resistance, a common symptom of PCOS, makes it difficult to lose weight since extra insulin in the system accumulates in the bloodstream and helps the body store, instead of burn, excess body fat. This insulin resistance causes hyperinsulinemia, which contribute to excess hormone production in the ovaries, which can cause symptoms such as acne, excess hair growth and balding.

Regular exercise is very effective at improving your body's resistance to insulin. Also, many women can take Metformin (Glucophage) as an aid until weight loss is achieved. The weight loss, a lower carbohydrate diet and exercise will all contribute to a better response to insulin. For many women, getting the insulin regulated will help control some of the other symptoms.

hello,
i'm new posting on this topic but reading about pcos and clomid got my attention. I have pcos and found out when i was 25 years old. I tried clomid for many months got preg a few times and every time i got preg just that quick i lost it. Infertility is tough! It almost ruined my marriage, not because of my dh doing anything wrong but because we both want a child very badly and i feel like a failer as a women and wife. I told him we should get divorced so he could find someone that could give him what he deserved. He of coursed told me he didn't marry me for wether or not we could have childs but because he loved me. So we have been doing clomid and metformin due to insulin resistents and still nothing. Last sept I stopped all the meds and went on the pilll due to my dh going in the army so it would do us no go to try when he is in korea...lol but when he comes home i would like to try ivf and also adopt..We have alot of love for our own or adopted. I would like to have both!!! I love children and believe they are a big blessing from God. Thanks for listening
Terri

The purpose of CLOMID or SYROPHENE, is to help mature the female eggs. This will only help if that is the case.

I was on both of the above mentioned medications back and forth, and then referred to a specialist do do a Morphology test, in which he found nothing wrong with me, but my husband.

So in taking the CLOMID or SYROPHENE, it did nothing, as the problem was not with me. We also learned that many people carry a virus that could potentially cause miscarriages if one or both partners had it. It's a virus that could come and go, could get it at birth, passed from one person or another. I am not sure what the virus was called, but millions of people have it that are not aware of it. I will have to dig out the name of this virus I got from my specialist and reply to the posting.

Have you tried doing a temperature chart to see if you are ovulating around day 14-16ish? I did one for 3 years, then gave up- became pregnant last year, then after 4 months had a miscarriage. Tried Adoption through Family and Children's Services, was denied my right to adopt, and now, I am going back to taking my temperature every morning in hopes that maybe it will be different this time.

Your right, some people do not ovulate accordingly, but by taking your temperature, you will be able to find out when you do, and practice at that time trying to get pregnant.

I am not sure where you are from or aware of what the cost of adoption is? Private adoption costs approx. $8,000 CND, and $20,000 ++ CND for international adoption in ONTARIO.

Anyway, I hope god answers all of our prayers for each and everyone one of us reading our problems on the forums.

God bless, and good luck to you both!

I took clomid 4 years ago. I was not ovulating. I had to get shots to even start a cycle then once I started I took the clomid. My doc said I had 3 months to get preg., then that was it for me. Medical problems, long story.....
Anyway, 3rd time was a charm for me. I have a 4 year old little boy to show for it. He has no probs and we didn't have twins or more. Thank God for medical miracles, or I wouldn't have my 4 year old........

I just wanted to say that I tried the charting of temp's for a year and a half and my temp did not rise when I ovulated (or I'm sick for that matter) so charting was not a valuable way for me see if I ovulate. Through the numerouse ultra sounds and blood tests they were able to determine I ovulate to late for a pregnancy to take place.

(((BabyBlues2)))

Although I have not faced the same exact infertility issue you are, I have suffered with unknown secondary infertility. We ttc for 4 years this was to be my husband's first child, my second. Finally at the beginning of the 4th year we decided to jump into treatments, this was after we each had a surgery apiece which fix the specific problems, a ton of tests(dh was not a bit intimidated by the "cup" anymore and my vains ran when I pulled into the parking lot. Within a 5 month period we did 2 IUIs and 1 IVF all "failed". I had been emailing a very well known specialist and after he read my records and all he was sure he could help me and at first the insurance said they would cover alot of it, but at the last minute they said no way. Dh wanted to proceed with another IVF, but I didn't have it in me and I knew that unless it was determined what was really wrong with me(and it basically was me that was the problem) I just couldn't go through it all again. I was completely wiped out in every way. I began to look into adoption because a friend of mine was pursuing it. I dove into the research and asked her a ton of questions. Then she got pg from donor eggs. So I was left on my own. Dh was completely against it at first, but I wasn't about to give up. I realized through all of this that I was 100% more excited about adoption than I ever was about treatments. After my research I presented it all to my husband and he agreed to go to a informational meeting on state adoption as we both agreed this was the right path. Well that meeting was 1yr 9months almost to the day. We have been matched and are waiting for some legal issues to be resolved. Once they are we will be the proud and blessed parents of 2 wonderful boys ages 4 and 7. You will know if adoption is right for you. In the beginning it isn't completely obvious, but you will realize it eventually. I know for us there is no doubt. The good Lord lead me down a very rough path to get to rainbow, but along the way I learned a lot that will help me with these boys and I will appreciate them 100% more than anyone else could. Best wishes.

Hi... I am very new at this. I was put on chlomid back in 1995 and conceived right away... miscarried at 4 mo though.. was very tough .. then in 1998 I was put back on chlomid and conceived on 2nd month. (the 1st pregnancy was miscarried becuz of no heart beat) My 2nd pregnancy was ok untill 7th mo and I began not to feel my daughter move I was admitted and had her emergency C section 2 days later ... she weighed 2 lbs. she was having dips in her heart rate as well so she was taken emergency c section.. born in 7 min flat. She was hospitalized for 2 mo .. she is 4 yrs old now and still tiny 33 lbs but is doing great. Never anything serious other than weight gain. Have been trying for 2 yrs to conceive again and have been on chlomid again and had no luck. Getting ready to be on 5th consecutive month now. Ready to give up. I think chlomid works differently w/different people. But I also believe after 6 mo of trying w/chlomid something else should be considered... and that will be my next step ! Hi...
