We brought home our daughter about 2 months ago. Her birth parents released their rights 3 weeks ago. We are currently in the "supervisory" period in the adoption process, which means that we will soon be having our first post-placement visit with our social worker. The adoption will be final in approximately 6 months.

We are planning on Guatemala adoption. I have already researched agencies and we know who we want to use at this point. We are going to try and time it that we start paperwork end of this year and hope to bring our little guy home fall of next year. That will make our daughter over 3 1/2 I think that is a good age. Seems so far away but I have never seen time fly so quickly than it has since she was born. I am so excited. I am sorry did you mention where you are adopting from? Our daughter was domestically.

Tracey,
Ours is a domestic adoption. We had considered Guatemala and Korea because the wait times are typically shorter, but we ultimately chose domestic because it was the best fit for us. Our wait was long -- more than 2 years -- but everything is working out great for us. There were times when we wondered if we should stick it out or switch to international, but we are so glad we waited. Our daughter is everything we had ever hoped for. Good luck with your adoption. I hope everything goes smoothly for you.

Deanna, Thanks so much. Kira was domestic but now we want a boy and Guatemala just seems to fit our needs. We are so excited and we are hoping to travel Sept Oct time frame next year. I will update everyone when we start the paperwork and let you all know how it is going.

Tracey congratulations on your decision!
Although we didn't choose that path, I too was drawn to the Guatamala children. They are just so precious. I also liked the fact that after birth they are placed in a foster home, not an orphanage, where they receive the loving care they need. I wish you luck on your journey and YES keep us updated!!!
